Breathing Apparatus Course

Breathing Apparatus Operator Course: $365 + GST

Have your teams trained by BA Specialists. Our training is delivered by experienced emergency services workers whose lives have depended on the skills they impart. We train operators of Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus (CABA) in critical physical, mental, and practical aspects essential for safe operation. Participants will learn essential pre-start checks, the commissioning of equipment, and the correct techniques for wearing and monitoring CABA systems during operation. Additionally, operators will be equipped with knowledge on how to recommission the sets for future use, ensuring readiness and safety in any confined space environment.

When it comes to safety training, trust those who live it every day. Our BA instructors do just that.

Regardless of whether your staff engage in routine tasks that require the use of CABA (eg. in the water treatment industry) or are trained for Emergency Response Teams and Rescue Operations, our comprehensive course is designed to instill confidence in using breathing apparatus to its fullest potential—even in the most challenging conditions.

Our trainers, who are seasoned industry professionals, share hands-on experience and relevant techniques. Participants will learn not only the theoretical aspects of CABA but also practical applications that could prove critical in high-pressure scenarios. With our training, your team will be empowered to tackle situations with resilience, ensuring their safety and effectiveness at every step. Equip your workforce to face adversity head-on and maintain operational integrity, no matter the environment. Trust Elite Training Services Ltd to elevate your team's skills to new heights.

Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus (CABA) Operator Training Program

Course Details

This one-day course covers Unit Standard 25044 – Wear and Operate Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus in the Workplace.

The cost is $365 + GST (including NZQA credits).

Our course aims to equip operators with comprehensive knowledge and skills in the physical, mental, and practical aspects of using Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus (CABA) systems. Understanding the following:

Pre-Start Checks

  • Understand the importance of thorough inspections before use.

  • Learn to identify and rectify potential issues in the CABA unit.

  • Develop skills for effective verification of all components for operational readiness.

Commissioning

  • Gain insight into the correct procedures for initializing CABA systems.

  • Learn operational protocols to ensure system efficiency and safety.

Wearing and Monitoring

  • Train on the correct techniques for donning CABA equipment properly.

  • Explore the physiological and psychological effects of wearing CABA during operations.

  • Master the monitoring of air supply and equipment functionality throughout use.

Recommissioning

  • Understand the steps required for cleaning and checking CABA units post-operation.

  • Learn effective recommissioning processes to maintain equipment for future use.

  • Focus on maintaining compliance with relevant safety standards and regulations.

This training program is designed for those who require duty-specific knowledge in handling CABA systems. By the end of the training, operators will possess the necessary competencies to ensure their safety and the safety of others while utilising CABA effectively in their workplace.

Practical Component

This course relies heavily on it’s practical components. The trainee does require a moderate level of fitness to be able to demonstrate the required skills to achieve a competent outcome.

A change of clothes is required, as the trainee will perspire during the practical phases of the course

The trainee will be required to increase their workload while breathing from the CABA system, and remain in control of their breathing (not panicking).

After several minutes of increased workload and physical effort, the trainee will be required to relax, and lower their respiration rate and volume, to reduce the demand of the CABA system -and increase the duration / time that they could gain from the cylinder -if required (eg. they were trapped in an irrespirable atmosphere).

Note:  As we are training users to wear the Breathing Apparatus in a simulated IDLH (Immediate Danger to Life or Health) situation, the trainees must be clean-shaven. Information can be found on this on OSH (Occupational Safety and Health) pages from all around the world. This does date back to Negative-Pressure Demand type CABA sets, but nonetheless, the leak-rate of any type of BA mask seal will increase if the wearer has facial hair in the sealing area.
