Course Details

This is a one-day course covering unit standard 19359: Inspect and Maintain Height Safety Equipment.

This course covers an extensive range of heights equipment, from harnesses and fall arrest equipment, through to advanced rope access equipment. and its appropriate use and maintenance. It is not just inspecting a harness and a carabiner! Trainees will be presented with Pulleys, Slings, Rope, Helmets, Harnesses, Carabiners, Scaffolding Hooks (and other connectors), Ascenders, Descenders, Rope-Grabs (and other Type-1 Fall Arrest Devices), Inertia Reels, Lanyards, Shock-Absorbers

The training not only focuses on the manufactures instructions, but also out own standard around equipment use and maintenance (AS/NZS1891.4:2009 Fall Arrest Systems and Devices -Selection, Use and Maintenance).

Our PPE Inspection course has been designed to give trainees the appropriate theoretical and practical knowledge to allow them to:

  • Identify specific working at height safety equipment.

  • Identify and interpret manufacturers instructions

  • Identify manufacturers maintenance specifications

  • Inspect and reject damaged or worn equipment

  • Carry out maintenance procedures in accordance with manufactures specifications

  • Record equipment in an equipment logbook

  • Record maintenance procedures in the logbook

Prerequisites:

There are no prerequisites detailed by NZQA for this course, however, experience with the equipment is definitely required. The minimum entry criteria should be a person that has previously completed unit standard 23229 (Use a harness for personal fall protection), or 17600 (Explain safe work practices at height), or similar training that has given the trainee experience in the use of the equipment that they will be inspecting. As stated, this is not a legal prerequisite.
