So, who are we?
After thorough discussions with co-competitors across the gravel and tarmac rallying spectrum, we identified a significant gap in the availability of high-quality pre-made stage notes and drive-through videos within New Zealand. It’s evident that while no single set of notes will perfectly cater to every competitor's needs, our objective is clear: to create accurate stage notes that provide all essential information. These notes will be crafted to support both novices and seasoned competitors alike.
Troy and Kyla Twomey bring years of rallying experience to the table, having participated both individually and together as a cohesive team. Their diverse experiences with various co-drivers and drivers have enriched their perspective on what works best on the rally stage. With Troy’s extensive military background coupled with his shared leadership in a Rope Access company and an industry training firm, he envisioned that leveraging a select network of motorsport enthusiasts could lead to something impactful. This realisation prompted an investment in cutting-edge data collection equipment.
The development of our notes system has been a collective effort. It has involved numerous collaborators, focusing on the layout, color schemes, and angle data. This initiative transcends the contributions of just a few individuals. Particularly, without the innovative ideas of Glenn Inkster, this project may have never launched. Together, we are poised to elevate the rallying experience in New Zealand through meticulous and thoughtful stage notes.
Corner-to-Crest offers a cutting-edge approach to gathering stage notes that is firmly rooted in data-driven techniques. By utilizing steering-angle data obtained from the CanBus computer, along with GPS and G-Force metrics, we provide drivers with an unprecedented level of precision in their stage notes. This system effectively translates real-time driver inputs into accurate corner angles, akin to the method of marking steering wheels with tape during recce in large gravel rallies, such as the NZRC.
Why should this matter to you, the end-user? Consistency is key. Our steering-angle based system ensures that results remain reliable, regardless of any fluctuations in vehicle speed due to traffic conditions or unexpected intersections. Each stage has undergone comprehensive evaluations, driven multiple times to meet our own rigorous standards, and ensure we are meeting our obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and the General Risk and Workplace Management Regulation 2016.
We meticulously produce our stage notes (Version 1) following initial drives, incorporating extensive reviews against video footage to ensure accuracy. Once a consensus is reached that the notes are nearly perfected, we drive the stage once again, calling out the notes in real-time — a process that often reveals further enhancements. Each final amendment contributes to the polished product you hold in your hands during events.
In a high-stakes environment, having reliable stage notes is not just a benefit; it's a necessity. With Corner-to-Crest, you're not just following instructions – you're relying on a streamlined, tested system designed to enhance your rally experience, enhance safety, and ultimately enjoy the rally. This is about empowering drivers with real-world experience that results in safer, more effective navigation on the tracks. Choose Corner-to-Crest for the confidence that comes from precision and safety in every note.
As you can see from reading the above, we have taken steps so far as reasonably practicable to ensure that these stage notes are accurate, clear, and legible.
